Horti, a popular online plant subscription service, has gone brick-and-mortar, and this weekend celebrated the grand opening of its flagship shop and showroom in Williamsburg.
Featuring nearly 5,000-square-feet of indoor space, the Horti PLAY storefront allows visitors to browse greenery for purchase, but also doubles as an experimental plant jungle as well as a houseplant shipping operation.
The showroom is the largest of its kind in Brooklyn, offering up a variety of educational experiences for visitors to learn about Horti’s plants while they shop. The interactive space also allows and patrons and everyday visitors alike to participate in workshops, pop-ups, live performances and more.
“Forming relationships with houseplants is at the core of our business, and Horti PLAY has been designed to reject the throw-away culture of shopping and instead put connection with nature at the forefront,” said Puneet Sabharwal, Horti’s co-founder and CEO in a statement. “There isn’t a houseplant store like this anywhere in New York City, and we look forward to using the space as the conduit to many long-lasting houseplant relationships.”
Visitors can stop by Horti PLAY to pick up new plants for just about any space, but can also get advice on how to care for their plants from Horti’s team of on-call “Plant Doctors” — or they can just get lost in the awe of the plant store’s sprawling showroom.
“We’ve designed Horti PLAY as a space where people can drop by for a moment of respite from their day-to-day life and enjoy being surrounded by the calming presence of plants,” Horti Co-Founder and COO Bryana Sortino said. “With community as our driving purpose, we’re already looking toward additional ways to use the store, such as an artists’ co-working space and curated houseplant library.”
For those living outside of New York City, Horti offers a large selection of houseplants for delivery nationwide as well as plant subscription boxes with month-to-month, six-month and 12-month shipping options.
