A spate of break-ins hit Fort Greene and Clinton Hill last week, with four separate incidents shattering some residents’ sense of security.
A Whitman Houses resident had her television set and surround-sound system taken while she was on vacation, police said. The 23-year-old, who lives on North Oxford Walk between Park Avenue and Cumberland Walk, reported that she was away from 3 pm on June 23 until 5 pm on July 1, and that while she was gone a prowler busted in and took her 32-inch flat screen and sound system. The woman lost her keys a year ago and never had her locks changed, she said.
Then, on July 2, a sneak-thief stole a computer, phone, and electronic tablet from a Willoughby Avenue building. The 39-year-old tenant of the building between Adelphi Street and Clermont Avenue said he left for work at 8:45 am — and left the kitchen window open — and when he returned at 5:30 pm, he found his apartment ransacked and his electronic devices vanished, officers stated.
The same day, a lowlife stole a laptop out of an apartment on Grand Avenue between Clifton Place and Greene Avenue. The 28-year-old victim told police his roommate left for work at 1:45 pm, and when one of them returned at 5:45, the door was unlocked and the laptop was gone, according to the authorities.
A burglar also hit a Clinton Avenue house on July 6, making off with two laptops, an electronic tablet, and a camera, cops said. The 30-year-old resident told police she left her abode between Myrtle and Park avenues at 10:30 am, and when she came back at 5:30 that night, her stuff was gone. The bandit probably came in through her front window, the lady reported.
