Donate blood, and you could meet Linkin Park
Blood services and the music business have teamed up to create Music Saves Lives, a blood drive being held at the McCarren Park Pool this Sunday, July 20. All successful donors will receive VIP passes to the upcoming Vans Warped Tour, which provides the donor with the opportunity to meet and hang out with performers like Katy Perry and Linkin Park.
In the summer months, blood supplies become low and the New York Blood Center must make up for this loss by attracting people to events that will encourage them to donate. (You can donate blood if you are 17 years old.)
Music Saves Lives offers the perfect solution: free concerts in the park with the opportunity to donate blood. Ellen Kramer, an organizer of the event, points out that “backstage passes are just a perk, the important thing here is that we are saving lives.”
Red Flag Wednesdays on Atlantic Avenue
If you’re walking down Atlantic Avenue and happen to see a bunch of red flags outside many of the storefronts, don’t be surprised — just walk on into those stores and ask about their special promotions and discounts.
Every Wednesday through Aug. 27 from 10 am till midnight, the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation will present Red Flag Wednesdays, indicating various promotions, events and discounts offered by each storeowner.
Activities include Rock Star Karaoke, hosted by Hank’s Saloon, and story time and free arts and crafts hosted at Moxie Spot at 1pm.
As Angela Ferrante, interim president of the AALDC said, “Between merchants offering special sales outside their storefronts, to events that cater to families, to events for those looking for something a little different to spice up their nightlife scene, there’s always something happening on Atlantic Avenue on Wednesdays!”
