A 20-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting in early August was apprehended last week after being caught guzzling a beer in the street.
A gun — possibly the one used in the shooting — was found next to the beer that shooting suspect Jonathan Stevens “killed” on Seaview Avenue near East 97th Street last week, officials said.
Police said that after cops saw him consuming an alcoholic beverage at a public place and found the gun, he was taken into custody.
He was then linked to the shooting on August 5, where he allegedly shot a man in the chest during a robbery.
Police allege that Stevens and an unidentified accomplice grabbed their victim on Seaview Avenue near East 101st Street at 3:40 p.m. that Wednesday afternoon.
They reportedly demanded his iPod then kicked him to the ground when he wouldn’t give it up.
The suspects swiped the iPod and some cash from the victim, police alleged, then pulled a gun and opened fire. The bullet ripped through the chest, piercing the chamber of the heart, officials said.
Despite the near-fatal wound, the victim survived the ordeal and was on the mend, officials said.
Police charged Stevens with attempted murder, assault, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
His accomplice was still at large as this paper went to press.
