BWECC 2010 “Parent of the Year Award” to PS 177’s Heather Fiorica

Heather Fiorica has been involved in the public school community since her daughter Brieanne was first enrolled at PS 177.She is a dedicated parent who is an active partner in the education of her child, as well as other children. She has been a Learning Leader and the PS 177 Title I Chairperson in 2006.For the past two years, Heather, along with Maritza Fernandez, has served as Co-President of the Parent Teacher Association. She is also a member of the School Leadership Team. Heather with her co-president represents PS 177 on President’s Council.

Heather is always on call to serve the school in any capacity needed. She spends countless hours organizing activities and planning events for the children of PS 177. She has been instrumental in raising funds needed for materials to enhance the school’s academic programs. She is willing to help with any cause and always has a smile on her face and an encouraging word for children and parents alike.

Heather was born in Queens and has attended public school all her life. A graduate of Richmond Hill High School, Heather received the Irwin Tobin Physical Education Award for Outstanding Achievement in Scholarship, Citizenship and Service. While attending high school, Heather worked for the American Cancer Society.Heather went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Security Management from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in June, 1998. While at John Jay College, Heather worked as a volunteer Orientation Leader, mentoring and assisting new students.She further honed her interpersonal and organization skills working as a Manager of Stay Slim.

Heather is an avid reader who loves to bake. She and her husband Anthony reside in Brooklyn with their eight year old daughter Brieanne and all are active Parishioners at Saint Simon and Jude Church. Heather loves spending time with family and friends. Heather an active lady just recently became a member of the BWECC Executive Board.
