Starry-eyed students there joined peers from Sheepshead Bay High School to audition for a “My School has Rhythm Not Violence” rap contest, presented by the NYPD School Safety Community Outreach Unit.

The performances culminated safety and well-being workshops conducted by staff and school safety officers in six citywide schools, with winners offered a hailed slot on radio’s Power 105.1.

To a track donated by rapper and record producer Swizz Beatz, the socially-conscious crooners presented raps in the auditorium of Canarsie High, 1600 Rockaway Parkway, pitting their vocal cords against competitors from Sheepshead Bay High, 3000 Avenue X.

The winners putting Canarsie High on the rap map were Doris Williams, Samuel Haigler, Chevonnese Giavean and Dereka Pittman.

The creative program was sponsored by Municipal Credit Union.
