Pomp and reflection marked the occasion when local patriots paid tribute to the nation’s deceased war heroes with a Memorial Day Parade in Canarsie.
A service at the Canarsie Memorial Circle at Canarsie Pier was followed by a solemn stroll, stepping off outside the American Legion Hall, Conklin Avenue and East 92nd Street, and proceeding to Rockaway Parkway and Avenue L, along Avenue M to Remsen Avenue and onto Canarsie Cemetery where a memorial service and wreath−placing ceremony hailed the memories of those who made supreme sacrifices in the line of duty.
Marching bands, student banner groups and a host of other community contingents strode the parade route.
