The creative and talented seniors who make up the “Heights and Hill Handicrafters” are busy. At holiday time, they donated all the hats, scarves, dolls and blankets they had spent the year knitting and crocheting to the Mother-Baby unit of Long Island College Hospital (LICH) of Brooklyn.
Now what?
Well, they start all over again, that’s what. A mere few months after their last donation, the Handicrafters once again brought a bundle of booties a dollop of dolls and a bevy of blankets to benefit the moms receiving care at a special LICH prenatal program for uninsured women. The gifts, lovely in their own right, also function as an incentive to encourage the moms to come back for their post-natal care.
The Handicrafters are part of the Heights and Hill Community Council, a leading provider of social services for senior residents of Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill.
