She’s still in charge.
Marion Cleaver was reelected as chair of Community Board 13 at the board’s last meeting.
Cleaver faced no opposition and was reelected with little fanfare – the board approved the reelection and quickly resumed business.
But that doesn’t mean Cleaver isn’t excited to remain in the board’s top spot.
“Given what we’re going to be dealing with in the upcoming years, I think it’s a vote of confidence. I hope it is,” she told this paper.
She’s referring to the controversial redevelopment and rezoning plans underway in Coney Island and Brighton Beach.
“We’re going to be dealing with a lot,” Cleaver said.
To handle the work, CB 13’s executive board will mostly remain the same.
“We basically have the same board members and we really haven’t switched the executive board that much. Basically we’re maintaining the status quo,” Cleaver said.
In her next two-year term as chair, Cleaver will continue to focus on Coney Island and Brighton Beach but also wants to explore downzoning nearby neighborhoods.
“Definitely we want to see some resolution to Coney Island and Brighton,” she said. “I’d like to have City Planning take a good hard look at the Gravesend community.”
Cleaver was elected chair of Community Board 13 in June 2006. She previously held various posts on CB 13’s executive board, including parliamentarian. She’s been a member of CB 13 for more than 14 years.
Joining Cleaver on the board are Eddie Mark as first vice chair; Irene Olson as second vice chair; Debbe Santiago as secretary, and Evelyn Strasser as treasurer.
