CB14 holds farewell party for Doris Ortiz

Parting is such sweet sorrow.

The community board for Flatbush, Midwood and Kensington welcomed new members and said goodbye to Doris Ortiz, a 34-year veteran of the board, who retired as district manager on July 1.

“This little lady wears size 14 shoes,” said CB14 Chairman Alvin Berk, who choked up along with other speakers in an emotional send-off for the beloved district manager held on June 23.

Mohammed Rozni said that Ortiz had a hand in helping repair relations with the Muslim community after 9-11.

“I can’t even explain how difficult it is to build those bridges,” said Rozni.

Representatives from the Department of Sanitation, who worked closely with Ortiz during the blizzards this winter, also stopped by to pay their respects.

“During the winter, we might have had one friend at Sanitation,” said District Superintendent Daniel Stine. “It was Doris.”

CB14 elected Shawn Campbell, an aide to Assemblyman James Brennan (D-Kensington), as Ortiz’s replacement in their final meeting of the year.
