CB17 variety concert kicks off summer at Paerdegat Park

Sweet 6-year-old Jonell Ashby wiggled her hips to hip-hop moves and had the crowd jumpin’ at Paerdegat Park.

Jonell’s contribution helped step up the tempo for area residents, who were inspired to get their own boogie on — or perchance exercise their vocal chords — at Community Board 17’s summer variety concert on June 24.

The evening of fun kicked off the season of sun at the Canarsie green — with jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues, reggae and more commanding the spotlight, as the musically-inclined showed off their talents to a captivated audience.

“You could say that I had a lilting time — the music was that great!” effused Carol Watkins, who says that she comes each year to support the local talent.
