Saint Ann’s School ninth grader Katie Coates and junior Monica Greco were the first prize winners in the High School Chamber Music Competition, sponsored by the Brooklyn Philharmonic at Bishop Loughlin High School, 357 Clermont Avenue.
They performed the first movement of the Brahms Sonata in G for violin and piano. Katie also performed the allegro from Beethoven’s Trio opus 87 with ninth graders Meg Browning and Hannah Sassoon.
However, the judges could not award the two top prize from the same school. These groups were coached by Laura Gilbert, a Saint Ann’s faculty member.
The Saint Ann’s School’s Music Department received $1,500 and the winners performed in a pre-concert at the Gilman Opera House, 30 Lafayette Avenue, at BAM, followed by the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s concert.
St. Ann’s School is located at 129 Pierrepont Street.
