It’s three brooms and a dust bin for Assemblyman William Colton (D–Gravesend). Not only did he organize the initiative, but he ‘swept’ right in, too!
Continuing his efforts to make the neighborhood cleaner, the pol and Nancy Tong, his director of community relations, put the word out for volunteers. High school students cast their dust bins and brushed the sidewalks and cleaned catch basins along Kings Highway between McDonald Avenue and Bay Parkway.
“Often, the Department of Sanitation and local business owners are on tight budgets and unable to provide the necessary personnel to properly clean all of the catch basins and sidewalks,” Colton noted.
The assemblyman has been at the helm for more than eight years. In collaboration with Councilman Mark Treyger (D–Gravesend), not-for-profit groups in the area have been contracted to provide daily street cleaning services along commercial blocks, including 86th Street and 18th Avenue.
“Cleaner streets mean a better quality of life for all residents and business owners in the area,” Colton said.
