The Field House in Marine Park has finally been torn down and construction will soon begin on the long awaited Carmine Carro Community Center.
The funding for this project is a combination of New York State and New York City funding. Mayor Bloomberg awarded $3.5 million to build the community center; state Senator Marty Golden, $1.1 million, Councilman Lewis Fidler, $1.4 million; and Assemblyman Alan Maisel granted $500,000 towards the project to see this state-of-the-art senior center built in Marine Park.
The center, which will honor the late Carmine Carro, former president of the Marine Park Civic Association, will be a large, energy efficient building open to the entire community from the young to the young at heart.
Golden, chairman of the New York State Senate Aging Committee stated, “This is a great day for all the seniors in Marine Park who will soon see the newest senior center in our city constructed right here in our own backyard. The seniors of Marine Park deserve the chance to have a better quality of life and to age with dignity. For many, senior centers become like second homes, so they deserve to be the very best. I look forward to a ribbon cutting ceremony in the future and to finally having a proper gathering place for our Marine Park Active Adults. I commend Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his administration for their commitment to this project and to the youth and seniors of our neighborhood.”
