Hudson Valley 6
Cyclones 5
June 25 at Hudson Valley
A walk-off single by Hudson Valley’s James Harris with bases loaded capped a comeback from five runs down and Renegades beat the Cyclones 6–5 in 10 innings to avoid the sweep.
The Clones scored five runs in the first inning when outfielder Jorge Rivero, second baseman L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli and outfielder Jared King loaded the bases on singles, and first baseman Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste doubled to left to bring all three home. With Oberste on second, outfielder James “Papa” Roche walked before both advanced on a wild pitch. Finally, catcher Tomas Nido reached first on a Renegade fielding error, which also allowed both Oberste and Roche to score.
But Cyclones didn’t score again, however, and allowed Hudson Valley chipped away, scoring once in the first, three times in the third, and tying it in the fourth, with all runs coming against Clones starter Miller Diaz. He was only charged with one earned run, as errors in third and fourth innings by Oberste, Nido and Anthony Chavez that allowed four runs to be scored.
It stayed that way until the 10th — making it three extra innings games for the Cyclones in the team’s last four, when Hudson Valley’s Oscar Hernandez and Darryl George both singled before John Alexander walked, loading the bases. Harris then hit his ground ball single to right field to score Hernandez and end the team’s two-game skid to the Cyclones.
The Clones will play the first of a two-game set against Aberdeen in Maryland tonight, where the team will look to get back on the plus side of .500.
