Jamestown Jammers 6
Cyclones 3

July 7 at MCU Park

The Jamestown Jammers dealt Cyclones ace Luis Mateo his first loss of the season, taking the lead in the first and refusing to relinquish it.

Mateo, who blanked the Hudson Valley Renegades in his last appearance on July 1, gave up three runs in the first and plunked a batter. The Clones scored a run in the bottom half of the frame after second baseman Dimas Ponce reached base on a fielding error by Mini-Marlins third baseman Matt Juengel and Jammers starter Matt Milroy gave up a single to third baseman Alexander Sanchez, walked catcher Kevin Plawecki, and beaned left fielder Stefan Sabol to drive in Ponce.

The Jammers put up another run in the top of the third on an RBI single by shortstop Anthony Gomez, while the Mini-Mets scored in the bottom of the fourth after Milroy walked center fielder Brandon Nimmo and right fielder Eudy Pina before giving up an RBI single to Ponce.

The Clones rallied in the bottom of the eighth, coming within one run of the Jammers after an RBI double off the bat of Nimmo sent Sabol home. But closer Dawrin Frias gave up back-to-back hits to Gomez and

right fielder Jesus Solorzano, then let center fielder Juancito Martinez snag an RBI single. Plawecki threw the ball away trying to catch Martinez stealing second — bringing in another run and giving Jamestown the victory.

The Cyclones are home again at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449–8497, www.brooklyncyclones.com] tonight at 5 pm as they take on the Jamestown Jammers.
