July 3 at Dutchess Stadium
A pair of fielding errors by the Hudson Valley Renegades allowed the Mini-Mets to score two crucial runs and sweep the Baby Rays in a three-game series.
The Clones took the lead in the third inning on a sac fly from center fielder Brandon Nimmo and RBI base hits by shortstop Philip Evans and first baseman Cole Frenzel. But the Renegades tied the game in the bottom of the inning with three RBI singles of their own — and took the lead in the fifth after a double from first baseman Michael Williams drove in shortstop Ryan Dunn.
Sloppy fielding from the Renegades in the seventh evened the score and put second basemen Juan Carlos Gamboa on base. A single from Frenzel sent Gamboa home and putting Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer ahead, 5–4.
The Renegades evened things up on the bottom side of the frame, but in the top of the eighth, Gamboa hit a single up the middle that drove in catcher Nelfi Zapata, and a Hudson Valley error at first base let Clones right fielder Jonathan Clark score. Brooklyn closer Paul Sewald held the Renegades scoreless the last two innings of the game and picked up the save.
The Cyclones have won five straight games.
