CO fumes clear out day care center

Firefighters were dispatched to a Flatbush day care center after carbon-monoxide fumes gave the phrase “nap time” a new meaning.

Officials said that two adults and seven children were pulled out of the Harper’s Group Family Day Care Center at 339 Midwood Street at noon on Friday, October 16, on complaints that people were being overwhelmed by noxious fumes and feeling dizzy.

The day care takes care of children of all ages, from babies to toddlers, according to the New York Post.

Those removed from the center were removed to Kings County Hospital for evaluation.

Officials said that none of the children were affected by the fumes. The calls for help came from an upstairs neighbor, who had complained of lightheadness.

All of the children were found to be in fair health and returned back to their parents, officials said. Playtime at the day care center resumed after the building was aired out.

The fumes source was still being investigated as this paper went to press, although day care workers believe that the boiler, which had just been turned on a few weeks ago, could have sparked the problem.
