Asleep at wheel
A pickpocket swiped a man’s wallet from his shirt while the victim snoozed in his parked car on Union Street on July 12.
But the victim woke up at 2:05 am as the crook was reaching through the rolled-down window, between Smith and Hoyt streets, giving him a chance to get a good look at the hooligan who took his $103.
Shortly afterwards, police arrested a 49-year-old man whom the drowsy driver identified as the thief.
Victims too
Cops don’t just fight crime — they’re sometimes victims of it too.
An auxiliary car, parked at the corner of Hicks and Sackett streets — just a block away from the 76th Precinct stationhouse — was vandalized with graffiti the night of July 12 and 13.
The spray-paint artists tagged the Ford Crown Victoria with “Kill pigs” and “Piggies” sometime between 4 pm on July 12 and 1 am the next day.
At around the same time, a house on Henry Street was also tattooed with graffiti.
In this case, the menace practiced his technique by repeatedly spraying “Sam” in black paint on the garage door of the house between Sackett and Union streets, reportedly between 2 and 7 am.
Lock-less monster
A thief broke through a lock to steal a bicycle that had been hitched up on Atlantic Avenue on July 10.
The less-than-year-old Peugeot bike was locked near the corner of Hicks Street from 5 am to 9 am, according to the penny-farthing’s former owner.
Hello? You have my phone
An unattended purse in front of a Henry Street house was stolen on July 7.
The pocketbook, which was briefly unguarded between Baltic and Kane streets at 6:30 pm, contained a cellphone, $55, credit cards and ID.
The victim called her own phone later and was told by the person who answered it that the mobile had been bought from someone on Henry Street.
