Police have identified a suspect in the drive−by shooting that ended the life of a single mom in front of an East Flatbush church.
Detectives believe that Quwane Douglas, 27, opened fire on 32−year−old Francilyn Blake as she crossed Linden Boulevard near East 46th Street just before 8:30 p.m. on April 4.
A flurry of bullets were fired at Blake from a passing SUV, police said. The woman was hit five times and died at the scene.
The shooting took place outside God’s Battalion of Prayer Church, where, in a twist of irony, congregants were holding an anti−violence rally.
Blake died in her 16−year−old daughter’s arms, officials said.
Witnesses almost immediately identified Douglas −− Blake’s estranged boyfriend −− as the shooter.
She and Douglas had been together for a year, friends told police. The relationship, however, recently soured and Blake had broken up with him, officials said.
Friends told investigators that Douglas was controlling and had even threatened to hurt Blake if she ever ended the relationship, officials alleged.
“He had told her, ‘If you ever break up with me, something bad is going to happen,” one police source noted.
Cops are asking anyone with information regarding his current whereabouts to come forward.
Douglas is described as a six−foot−tall black male with short hair. He may have shaved his head since the shooting, police noted.
