The population of animals nearly doubled at the Prospect Park Zoo this past weekend as costumed visitors flocked to the wildlife park for an annual Halloween bash.
Throngs of cute youngsters dressed up like lions, cats, foxes, and even their favorite superheroes and princesses packed into the Flatbush Avenue institution for the family-friendly “Boo at the Zoo” Halloween extravaganza on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27.
“We had a great time,” said Sheepshead Bay dad Jason Joseph, who said that his 10-month-old son Jaden, who was dressed as a lion, particularly got a kick out of the dance party that broke out at the spooky event. “He was jumping up and down and dancing around like he was one of the big boys.”
The Prospect Park Zoo was transformed into a haunted sanctuary for the Halloween weekend tradition that featured a costume parade, dance bash, face painting, a witch show, a pirate scavenger hunt, and craft making.
Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins roamed through the terrain and posed for photos as kids and their families greeted the zoo animals and even got to watch baboons and meerkats play with pumpkins.
“It was really exciting to see all these people in different outfits and everyone with their families together for a great day out,” said Joseph.
Visitors who were brave enough walked through the “Spooky Barn,” where they were greeted by a rainbow-bearded scarecrow and a wacky cook whose dish of the day was a hearty plate of brains.
