What would have been a typically sleepy July 4 holiday on Bedford Avenue was electrified with the presence of Brooklyn Councilmember David Yassky (D−Williamsburg), who challenged passerbys to an unusually intense game of Four Square during Williamsburg Walks.

Competitors stepped up to the challenge, but all of them walked away drenched in sweat, as the stench of defeat reeked from their ravaged bodies.

“It kept going, so no one really won,” said Michael Freedman Schnapp, who organized the match. “Yassky and Ward [Dennis] dominated as the Ace for a while, but I played the longest.”
