Councilman Chaim Deutsch (D– Sheepshead Bay) held a job fair for locals at his district office on June 6.
“We must do everything possible to assist our friends and neighbors who are having difficulty finding work,” said Deutsch. “Since I was elected, I have been accepting resumes in my office and working together with non-profits to connect those in need with available employment opportunities.”
A few local organizations were also there to meet with those seeking employment.
Workforce1, which connects people with employers throughout the city, was there trying to land contracting jobs for some locals.
Build It Back helps those affected by Hurricane Sandy, which was the main goal of the day, to help Sandy victims whom are still unemployed.
“It’s perfect for us since we are a water front area,” said Tova Chatzinoff, the councilman’s deputy chief of staff.
Finally, the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush, which assists immigrants in the area, was around to teach people how to craft resumes and polish their interviewing skills.
According to Chatzinoff it was a packed house for the entire three hours of the job fair, and a lot of resumes were collected. “It was a very successful day,” she said.
