As he looks forward to his first 100 days in office, Flatbush Councilmember Jumaane Williams wants to make sure that everyone, from the elderly tenant to precinct commanding officer, all sit at the same table.
To do that, he’ll spearhead one of the largest community planning sessions that 45th District has seen in decades.
“I want to bring the community together for a big planning session,” Williams told this paper just moments after he watched Mayor Michael Bloomberg get sworn into his third term on New Year’s Day. “We want to bring together everybody, the non-profits, the churches, the police department and make sure we are all working in the right direction.”
Williams inauguration didn’t have the same pomp and circumstance. As all City Council members, he was sworn into office after he paid a $9 processing fee at the city clerk’s office.
It was a subdued end to a wild ride that began when the community organizer took on longtime incumbent Kendall Stewart and beat him in both the primary and general elections.
Looking ahead, the next four years are going to be more thrilling, he said.
“This is very exciting for me,” he said. “We’re looking forward to starting day one hitting the streets and making the 45th District a much better place to be.”
