Cyclist struck on Ocean Pkwy – Livery cab collides with 73-year-old

A Midwood senior was left clinging to life after his bike was struck by a livery car at the corner of Ocean Parkway and Avenue R, officials said Tuesday.

Shocked witnesses said that the victim, identified as 73-year-old Mikhail Belkin of East 18th Street, was pedaling through the intersection at 1:30 p.m. on May 12 when he was hit.

Stunned witnesses said that he rolled onto the car’s hood upon impact and struck the windshield, leaving a gaping hole.

Responding officers found Belkin lying on the ground suffering from two broken legs. He was also bleeding and suffering from massive head trauma, police said.

He was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center where doctors listed him in serious condition.

He remained in critical condition as of late Monday, officials said.

The senior’s mangled bike was found lying on a grassy median near the corner, officials said.

Officials said that no summonses were handed out to the livery cab driver, who passed all license and sobriety checks.

As of this writing, cops were treating the incident as a terrible accident.
