Cyclone chop down ‘Cutters in the ninth!

Cyclones 3
Crosscutters 2

Aug. 3 at MCU Park

The fireworks came early and late for the Cyclones during a rare Wednesday day game — with the Clones jumping to a lead and then winning a tie with Javier Rodriguez’s bottom-of-the-ninth RBI.

The Cyclones got on the board first when Travis Taijeron tripled home Brian Harrison, The hot-hitting Taijeron scored on Nelfi Zapata’s two-out single.

Starter Marcos Camarena yielded a run in the fourth on two hits, but you had to be pleased with his line: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 5 Ks.

Reliever Orlando Tovar also yielded a run — giving up a homer to the first batter he faced. So he got charged with the blown save, but he also got the win for being the pitcher of record when the Cyclones won it in the ninth.

Zapata led off with a single and Daniel Muno, whose average has cooled off to just .339, followed with another single. A walk loaded the bases, setting up Rodriguez’s fly-ball heroics.

The Cyclones are home against the Williamsport Crosscutters at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] tonight at 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
