Scrappers 4
Cyclones 7
Wednesday, July 14 at MCU Park
The Cyclones offensive barrage continued, with a 13-hit attack, though problems in the field made this game closer than it really was.
Brooklyn’s sluggers Rylan Sandoval (fifth) and league-leader Cory Vaughn (eighth) had homers in the third, to take a 3–0 lead.
But in the top of the fourth, starter Yohan Almonte melted down. He not only made a wild pitch, but on one play, he committed two errors, allowing a rally to continue. He got out of the jam with the oddest of pitching lines: 4 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 1 ER.
The Cyclones broke the game open in the sixth with three more runs, also aided by a key error. But Sandoval had an RBI double, too.
An insurance run scored in the seventh on a Joe Bonfe single.
Bonfe, Sandoval, Vaughn, Darrell Ceciliani and James Schroeder had multi-hit games.
The next Cyclones home game is tonight at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 19th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497]. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
