The Cyclones were able to pick up a second win against the Lake Monsters behind the reliable Corey Oswalt in the final game of the series before going on the road.
The Cyclones got on the board first, scoring two in the second inning. Tyler Moore, who went three-for-three, started a rally off with a leadoff single. Moore would get thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice, but William Fulmer knocked in two runs on a run-batted-in single.
Oswalt pitched six solid innings, giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts. The Lake Monsters hit a pair of doubles off Oswalt in the third to give them their first run. They tacked on another in the fifth on a Yairo Munoz sac fly.
The winning run for the Mini-Mets came off of Moore’s bat in the third. After Michael Conforto hit a single and stole second, Moore knocked a double to right field that brought him around.
The Cyclones set-up man Kelly Secrest pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings, leading the way for closer Shane Bay to pick up his sixth save of the year.
Tomorrow, the Cyclones go “on the road” to Jack Kerouac’s Massachusetts birthplace for a three-game series against the Lowell Spinners. They return to MCU Park on Wednesday.
Ups and downs
A family affair
Right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt from San Diego, California got the start in Saturday night’s game with his family watching. His dad threw out the first pitch. This is not the first time a member of the Cyclones family has taken part in the ceremonial first pitch. A few games ago Casey Meisner’s dad also took part in the tradition.
Monkeying around with the King
The Clones had two sets of special guests during Saturday night’s game. Curious George and The Man in the Yellow Hat took the field and worked the stands along with two Elvis impersonators.
Urena’s streak
Third baseman Jhoan Urena has hit safely in each of the last 12 games. This is his second hitting streak of the season — the previous one lasted 13 games.
