Batavia 2
Cyclones 0
July 22 at MCU Park
Jared King had the only two hits of the game for the Cyclones and the Batavia pitchers constantly frustrated the home team to record the 2–0 shutout at MCU Park.
Things looked good early for the Clones as King got his first hit during his first at-bat, but he received no help from the rest of the hitters. He added his second hit as the leadoff man in the fourth inning, but the Clones went down in order after that.
The shortage of hits did not mean the Cyclones didn’t have their chances. L.J. “Mini’Maz” Mazzilli blasted a shot over the left field wall in the third inning, but it was just barely foul. The Muckdog pitchers held up their end as well, retiring 14 straight Cyclones from the fifth inning on to end the game.
Batavia’s runs came in the second inning, when first baseman Scott Carcaise found home plate off an RBI groundout, and in the fifth after outfielder Austin Dean hit an RBI single to send Carlos Lopez home.
Carlos Valdez was the hard-luck loser, as he and Akeel “The Cat” Morris gave up just seven hits over nine innings.
With the loss, the Cyclones failed to notch that elusive first sweep of the season and will travel to take on the Lowell Spinners in another three game set, starting tonight at 7:05 pm.
