Kansas City 5
Cyclones 3
Oct. 31 at MCU Park North
Daniel Murphy’s costly error in the eighth led to two runs, negating Mike Conforto’s two dingers as the Cyclones fell to the Royals.
Our boys took an early lead in the second, when Conforto blasted a fastball deep into MCU Park North’s upper deck. Wilmer Flores followed with a single to left and later scored on a sacrifice fly, putting us up two to zip.
The Royals answered with a run in the fifth, but Conforto hit his second blast of the night to give our boys what seemed to be an insurmountable 3–1 lead.
But Kansas City scored another in the sixth, cutting the lead in half, and exploded for three runs in the eighth — helped out by the untimely Murphy error.
Cyclones flamethrower Hansel Robles continued his hot pitching by throwing a perfect ninth, and Murphy singled with one out in the bottom of the frame to keep the game alive. Yoenis Cepedes followed with a single to bring the winning run to the plate, but it all came to a shocking conclusion when Lucas Duda’s soft liner to third was caught by Mike Moustakas who flipped to first, doubling up the the journeyman outfielder who was sleeping off the bag and ending the game.
The Royals can take the series with a win tonight at MCU.
