Cyclones drowned by Lake Monsters in 5-2 defeat

Lake Monsters 5
Cyclones 2

July 6 at MCU Park

The Cyclones fell to the Lake Monsters in a 5-2 game that manager Rich Donnelly has come to call “alleyball.”

Vermont got on the board early and surged ahead to a 5-0 lead on a slew of sloppy plays — including an error and a wild pitch from Randy Fontanez in his first appearance with the Clones.

After six dissapointing innings, outfielder Jonathan Clark led off the Cyclones rally in the seventh, hitting two and getting one RBI in his first appearance of the season, but it wasn’t enough to sink the Lake Monsters.

Even Donnelly admitted that the Cyclones played some bad baseball Wednesday.

“The plays we messed up on are all pretty much routine plays,” he said after the game.

The Cyclones return home vs. the Vermont Lake Monsters at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on July 7, 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
