Cyclones fall to the Doubledays in 9-3 heartbreaker

Doubledays 9
Cyclones 3

July 13 at MCU Park

The Cyclones, the team with the second highest number of strikeouts in the New York-Penn League, met the Doubledays, the team with the most strikeouts, on Wednesday and still failed to pull out a win, losing 9-3 in an ugly outing at MCU Park.

Even Mother Nature appears to be against the Clones these days: the Doubledays were ahead by five in the second, thanks in part to a fielding error by Brandon Brown at the top of the first, when a wild rain storm ripped across Coney Island.

The game was delayed for a brief time, but instead of regrouping, the Cyclones continued to play as poorly as before.

The team managed to regroup albeit briefly in the fourth, but they needed help. Daniel Muno, making one of the Cyclones’ four hits, scored on a botched Doubledays force play.

Yet the Clones didn’t strike out as often as they usually do on Wednesday: they ended the night with just two. The Doubledays had 10.

The Cyclones return home vs. the Auburn Doubledays at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on July 14, 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
