Cyclones get back to .500

Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste homered, James “Papa” Roche added a two-run double, and the Brooklyn hurlers threw nine shutout innings to help return the Cyclones to .500.

Oberste got hold of a fastball in the second inning that raced over the left field wall for the first run of the game and the team’s third home run in the last two games.

Oberste also coerced a walk out of the Renegade pitcher in the fourth and Alex Sanchez doubled just before Roche hit a screaming line drive to the center-field wall to send both runners home.

Jared King would reach home on a fielding error later in the game, but the outcome was already firmly in the hands of the Cyclones. Carlos Valdez went six innings and Akeel “The Cat” Morris piggybacked for the final three to add another solid pitching outing in the Cyclones’ win streak.

Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer have now won five in a row and are back at .500 for the first time since they were 2–2, a streak players attribute to having finally found their stride.

“Everyone’s getting comfortable and feeling good at the plate,” King said. “We’re not making many mistakes anymore, and that’s how you’re successful.”

Now, with 20s on both sides of the win and loss column and the division lead creeping ever closer, the Clones embark on a six game road trip starting with tonight’s 7:05 game at Williamsport.
