Lake Monsters 1
Cyclones 0
Aug. 1 at Vermont
The Cyclones managed just five hits against the hometown Lake Monsters, losing a pitchers’ duel after giving up just one run on what appeared at the time to be not a big deal.
Vermont put runners on second and third in the third against starter Jeffrey Walters, who yielded a ground out that scored the game’s only run.
The best the Cyclones could muster all night was a runner on second.
On the plus side, frustrated Cyclones manager Rich Donnelly was tossed in the fifth inning for arguing with home plate umpire Dan Merzel.
The Cyclones are home against the Williamsport Crosscutters at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] tonight at 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
