Hudson Valley 6
Cyclones 4
Aug. 15 at Hudson Valley
Hudson Valley used a four-run seventh inning to break open a tie game and the Cyclones came up just short in the loss that dropped the Clones back to .500.
With the game tied 2–2 in the bottom of the seventh, Clones’ reliever Kevin McGowan gave up a single to Oscar Hernandez and walked Ty Young. Granden Goetzman later singled to load the bases for the Renegades, paving the way for John Alexander’s bases-clearing triple. Alexander scored on a passed ball by Cyclones’ catcher Colton Plaia before Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer could put an end to the onslaught.
The Cyclones put a dent in the four-run lead in the top of the eighth when Gavin Cecchini hit an infield single and James “Papa” Roche hit his third home run of the year, sending the ball over the left center-field wall.
The comeback attempt fell short in the ninth, however, when Jonathan Clark, Plaia and Anthony Chavez went down in order.
The loss, combined with an Aberdeen IronBird win, puts the Cyclones two games back of first place, and three in the loss column.
The Clones return to MCU Park to play Vermont in a three-game set starting tonight at 7 pm.
