Cyclones lose another; skid at two

Tigers 5
Cyclones 4

July 17 at Oneonta

A four-run Oneonta fifth inning plucked victory away from the underachieving Cyclones — who remain in last place in the McNamara Division.

Starter Jeff Kaplan was effective, but when he got into trouble in the fifth, reliever Tim Stronach threw some gasoline on the Tiger fire, giving up a run on a double and then another one on a wild pitch. He took the loss and saw his record drop to 2–4.

The Cyclones, who had managed eight hits in the first five innings, en route to a 4–1 lead, only got two hits in the last four frames.

The Brooks got on the board first, with a run in the opening inning on a Reese Havens triple and a Kirk Nieuwenhuis groundout. In the third, the Cyclones scored two, thanks to a Darren Clark single, a Jake Eigsti RBI double, a Havens single and a Nieuwenhuis SAC fly. Nieuwenhuis later tripled in the fifth and was knocked him by Eric Campbell.

The Cyclones play again tonight in Oneonta, then begin a three-game series with the first place Staten Island Yankees.
