Staten Island 9
Cyclones 3
Aug. 30 at Staten Island
The biggest game of the season is tonight at MCU Park.
Then, they’ll be an even bigger one tomorrow.
The Cylcones are in first place by a half game over the Aberdeen Ironbirds in the McNamara Division and both team’s playoffs are riding a two-game set against each other starting tonight in Brooklyn.
The stage was set last night, when both teams lost their games to lesser rivals, in the Brooklyn’s case, the pitiful Staten Island Yankees.
Cyclone killer Yeicok Calderon hit a three-run homer in the fourth to break the game open and Eric Jagielo added a two-run home run in the eighth to silence any Brooklyn comeback attempt.
The Yankees scored the first four runs of the game, all coming in the third inning. with two RBIs by Mike Ford and one each from Calderon and Kale Sumner.
L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli sent Jonathan Clark home on a fielder’s choice in the fourth after Clark singled and stole second, but the lone score left the Clones still down by three. The gap increased when Calderon hit his three-run homer in the next inning, increasing the Staten Island lead to 7–1.
First pitch is tonight at 6 pm. Not to editorialize, but be there.
Brooklyn Cyclones at MCU Park (Surf Avenue and W. 16th Street in Coney Island, www.brooklyncyclones.com) on Aug. 31 at 6 pm.
