Tigers 5
Cyclones 3
July 11 at Dodd Stadium
The Cyclones inept defense proved fatal in a 5-3 loss to the Connecticut Tigers Monday night.
The Tigers took advantage of a Cyclones throwing error to get on the board in the first, and carried a three-run lead into the top of the fifth, when the Clones finally sputtered to life.
Richard Lucas led off the inning with a double, and was plated on a triple by Charley Thurber, who scored later on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-2.
But that’s when the Clones’ defense unraveled: a throwing error in the fifth and two wild pitches by Todd Weldon in the sixth pushed the game out of their reach — and dropped the team’s record to .500.
The Cyclones return home vs. the Auburn Doubledays at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on July 13, 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
