Cyclones 6

State College 2

June 28 at State College

The Cyclones are at the .500 mark after Harol Gonzalez pitched six masterful innings in Brooklyn’s 6–2 win over the Spikes. Gonzalez gave up one run, three hits and struck out 10.

The Cyclones took a first inning lead on Blake Tiberi’s run-scoring force out. In the second, Arnaldo Berrios led off with a double and scored on Brandon Brosher’s single. Brosher moved to second on a Carson Cross wild pitch, but Brosher was caught trying to steal third. Dale Burdick singled, stole second and then scored on a throwing error by shortstop Jose Martinez to pad Brooklyn’s lead.

The Spikes got on the board in the fifth as Bladimil Franco led off with an infield single, the first hit off Gonzalez. Then Ricardo Bautista singled to right on a perfectly executed hit-and-run, putting runners on the corner with nobody out. Gonzalez limited the damage to just one run when he got Elier Rodriguez to ground into a double play.

Brooklyn put the game away in the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, Burdick singled off Dewin Perez to score Darryl Knight and give the Cyclones a 4–1 lead. Gene Cone walked to force in a run and Jay Jabs worked his own walk on an 11-pitch at-bat to force in yet another run and put Brooklyn up 6–1.

Taylor Henry pitched two scoreless innings before Alejandro Castro made things interesting in the ninth as he loaded the bases. Castro got Bautista to ground into a force out which brought in a run and put runners on the corners. He worked out of the jam quickly, however, forcing Rodriguez to fly out to left to end the game.

The 6–6 Cyclones look to notch a fourth straight victory with another matchup against State College on Wednesday at 7:05 P.M.

UPS AND DOWNS

Jay Jabs was the only Cyclone starter without a hit, although he walked twice.

Dale Burdick went three-for-four and Arnaldo Berrios went two-for-five. Both Cyclones now have a .121 batting average.

In a matchup of former Cyclones, Wilmer Flores grounded out against Yusmeiro Petit in Tuesday night’s Mets-Nationals game.
