Cyclones slay Monsters — Could this team be turning it around?

First-round pick Brad Holt continued his recent string of dominating performances, striking out 14 batters in just six innings of shutout work, helping the surging Cyclones raise their record to 17–19.

Holt’s outing was one of the best in Cyclone history, according to team media rep Dave Campanaro. The 14 strikeouts tied the team’s all-time single-game record.

To score eight runs on only nine hits, someone must have been hitting bombs — and, indeed, former Cyclone great JR Voyles returned to the team with a two-run dinger in the fourth and Eric Campbell hit a three-run blast in the first. Campbell was 4-for-4 on the night and raised his batting average to .317.

The win put the Cyclones just five games back of the first-place Staten Island Yankees.
