Cyclones 4
Spinners 1
Aug. 31 at Lowell
The Cyclones won their second in a row on the road with a convincing victory against the unraveling Spinners.
Lowell jumped to the lead with a single run thanks to two stolen bases in the second.
After that, it was all Cyclones: In the third, Richard Lucas hit his 17th double to score a run. And in the fifth, the bats came alive. Daniel Muno singled and was knocked home on Charley Thurber’s double. Lucas hit another double to plate Thurber and later scored on a sac fly.
Starter Jeffrey Walters was solid, giving up just three hits in five innings. The bullpen was stingy the rest of the way.
The win, combined with a win by Williamsport, kept the Cyclones tied for the league’s lone wild-card slot.
The Cyclones are home against the Staten Island Yankees at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on Friday night at 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
