Ironbirds 2
Cyclones 5
June 22 at MCU Park
The first-place Cyclones won their five straight game in decisive fashion, combining a nine-hit attack, plus great pitching, to sweep the Ironbirds in a three-game set.
The Clones got on the board first, putting up a two-spot in the second. After two batters walked, Dylan Brown tapped an infield single that was booted into an error that brought home Luke Stewart. Nelfi Zapata then rapped a single for an RBI.
The Clones added two more runs in the third, this time on solid hits. Hot hitter Daniel Muno led off with a double before newcomer Charley Thurber lined a double of his own. Thurber stole third and scored on Brian Harrison’s RBI double.
Meanwhile, Clones starter Eduardo Aldama was virtually unhittable, cruising through 5-2/3 innings giving up just one double.
The Cyclones pen did the rest, giving up only two runs in an mini-rally in the seventh.
An insurance run scored in the bottom of the frame on J.B. Brown’s two-out single.
The Cyclones return home vs. the Hudson Valley Renegades at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on June 25, 6 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
