The one and only employee of a Park Slope property management group stole $755,000 from the business to pay off properties she owned upstate, the borough’s top prosecutor claimed on Monday, after the woman was arraigned before a Brooklyn Supreme Court judge.
“This defendant allegedly used her employer here in Brooklyn as a personal piggy bank by stealing a staggering amount of money from several company bank accounts and then investing the stolen money into her own properties upstate,” said District Attorney Ken Thompson. “She will now be held accountable for this elaborate scheme to defraud.”
The alleged thief, a 44-year-old Syracuse woman and former Brighton Beach resident, used every trick in the book to swindle the family-owned Guardian Property Management, Thompson claimed.
She allegedly deposited checks for maintenance and rent into her own accounts, forged her employer’s signatures on checks that she deposited into her account, and manipulated bank accounts to disguise the massive theft, according to the district attorney’s office.
Thompson alleges that the suspect utilized her ill-gotten fortune to pay down mortgages and maintain six properties in Syracuse.
Justice Danny Chun set bail at a $750,000 bond or $250,000 cash, and ordered her to return to court on March 30.
