It was another great night at Prospect Park on Tuesday, as Jack White’s new band, The Dead Weather, put on one of the heaviest rock shows of the summer.
White mostly played drums, letting the lead singer, Allison Mosshart — looking like a drug-addled Helena Bonham Carter (which is not such a bad thing) — perch on speakers like a gargoyle while wailing like crazy.
In the second half of the set, which seamlessly swung from metal to bluesy rock, White picked up the axe, much to the crowd’s delight. The highlight of the night was the White Stripe’s frontman strutting around the stage while singing a cover of “You Just Can’t Win” — an old Van Morrison hit.
There are only five shows left in the Celebrate Brooklyn series, so head out to the park for the last free music of the season. One of the more hotly anticipated upcoming shows is the Daptone Super-soul Revue on Saturday night, which will likely feature a few surprise guests with Brooklyn roots.
