An unknown person shot a man dead in a car in Canarsie on Jan. 27, according to police.
A neighbor called 911 at 8:40 am to report an assault on E. 108th Street near Flatlands Avenue. Police responded and found a man with multiple gunshots to the torso sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle at the scene. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police later identified the man as Esley Porteous, 33, from Canarsie.
Porteous was seated in a gray Ford Explorer with New Jersey plates and had a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, a police spokeswoman said.
The shooting took place after an argument between Porteous and another man, and the gunman ran off on foot, Pix 11 reported.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
