Diner dash

Hefty tip

A couple of crooks pilfered $4,000 in an elaborate scheme to steal from a Court Street restaurant overnight on Dec. 13.

The diner’s owner told cops that sometime after closing time, crooks broke in through the front door of the eatery, which is between State and Schermerhorn streets, shut off a circuit breaker and disabled cameras before taking off with the cash register.

He discovered the crime the next morning.

Thief detector

A Johnson Street metal detector apparently stole a man’s wallet on Dec. 12.

The victim told police that he had sent his wallet through the machine at a building between Jay and Bridge streets, but when the plastic box came back through, the wallet was gone. No suspects were named, and the metal detector was not charged in the 10 am incident.
