The divas are back! And coming to Brooklyn!
VH1 is taking a break from D−list celebrity dating shows to bring back a true music experience – the Divas concert.
This year, the show will be taped on September 17 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House.
It’s been four years since the last Divas show and my, my, how times have changed. Previous concerts featured legends like Dianna Ross and Aretha Franklin. This time around, VH1 is aiming for a younger crowd.
It seems fitting that organizers tapped critically acclaimed performers like Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Adele. But some Diva followers have questioned the inclusion of Miley Cyrus, the star of the Disney Channel’s mega−hit “Hannah Montana.”
Is a 16−year−old a diva? Hmm…
Lee Rolontz, VH1’s executive vice president of original music production and development, calls the lineup “an amazingly talented group of young women.”
“Adele, Kelly, Leona and Miley have all captured the world’s attention with their talent and have earned their designation as VH1 Divas this year,” Rolontz said. “Don’t let some of their young age’s fool you – these women are among the best entertainers in the world and will continue to thrill music fans for a long time to come.”
Music lovers who can’t wait until the fall for their diva fill can check out VH1’s new Web site, http:⁄⁄divastories.vh1.com. The site aims to be an online community for those living, breathing and dreaming of the Diva gals.
Fans have offered “testimonials” describing how the divas have changed their lives.
For instance, “michael_hearts_kelly” announces, “Kelly is my breakup cure!”
“Reggie” says, “Leona Lewis is my girl.”
Even teenaged Cyrus earned raves.
“Emmejones” wrote, “Miley is the best! She’s young, successful and she has the world at her feet. It would be so awesome to be like her. Plus she dated Nick Jonas!!!”
Oh, the joys of youth.
