DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

DOG DAYS

Celebrate Brooklyn
wraps its 25th anniversary season with a benefit concert featuring
Scotland’s chamber-pop orchestra, Belle & Sebastian, on Aug.
19 at 7 pm.

"They have a live show that includes up to 17 musicians
on-stage, giving them a sonic palette that allows them to go
from very quiet passages accompanied only by acoustic guitar
to thunderous rock backed by their quirky orchestra," said
Celebrate Brooklyn director Jack Walsh. The band is named for
a French children’s cartoon about a boy and his dog.

The orchestra’s fans are awaiting the imminent release of B&S’
sixth album, "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" (Rough Trade
Records) – and surely will get a taste of what’s to come at the
Prospect Park gig. Produced by Trevor Horn, the new CD is rumored
to be earnestly gleeful, British pop embellished by bells, horns
and strings.

The Belle & Sebastian band members (pictured) are founder
Stuart Murdoch on guitar, vocals and piano; Stevie Jackson on
guitar and vocals; Sarah Martin on vocals and violin; Chris Geddes
on piano and keyboards; Richard Colburn on drums; Mick Cooke
on trumpet, guitar and bass guitar; and Bob Kildea on bass guitar
and guitar.

The concert will take place at the Prospect Park Bandshell, located
at Ninth Street and Prospect Park West in Park Slope. Tickets
are $35, and will benefit the annual Celebrate Brooklyn performing
arts series. To order, call Ticketmaster at (212) 307-7171 or
