Dorm heist at NYU=Poly

84th Precinct

Brooklyn Heights–DUMBO–Boerum Hill–Downtown

Poly perp

An NYU-Poly maintenance worker raided dorm rooms for laptop computers on Aug. 8, prosecutors allege.

The thieving custodian barged into a student’s room in the Johnson Street building at around 1 pm — then apologized to the dorm dweller for walking in, investigators say.

“Sorry, wrong room,” he said, according to documents from the District Attorney’s office.

When the student left his room at around 1:30 pm, surveillance video shows the worker walk right in and grab two laptop computers and two laptop chargers, police say.

The suspect is also accused of snatching another laptop from a different room in the same floor of the building, which is between Jay and Lawrence streets.

A co-worker identified the suspect using the security footage, and cops say they recovered all three computers.

Mugged on the mall

Cops arrested one of two juvenile muggers accused of pillaging a woman’s wallet on the Fulton Mall on Aug. 7.

The two perps grabbed the victim’s purse between Jay and Pearl streets at 6:50 pm, tore through it until they found her wallet, then grabbed the victim’s cash.

The duo discarded the handbag and coin purse and fled with $200 — but police say they managed to arrest one of the thieves.
