Dozens of kids happily saluted the summer season on Saturday with a day of fun in the sun at Paerdegat Park, sponsored by the Citizens for a Better Community.
Celebrating its 10th year, organizers put on a non-stop day of activities including amusement park rides, talent shows, pony rides, as well as a host of sporting competitions, among them several 50-meter dashes for kids of all ages and the always difficult (but enjoyable) potato sack race!
The park, which is at the corner of Albany Avenue and Farragut Road, was teeming with children of all ages on Saturday as they danced to an eclectic mix of Calypso, R&B and gospel music that was played throughout the day. As an added bonus, a crew from BCAT public access television was on hand to record every smile, explained event coordinator Yvette Barrow.

“It was a wonderful day,” she said.
The Citizens for a Better Community serves the areas of Farragut Road between Albany Avenue and E. 35th Street, Glenwood between Albany Avenue and E. 35th, E. 38th Street between Foster Avenue and Farragut Road, and E. 39th Street between Foster Avenue and Glenwood Road.
